Little data, plainly said.

You can browse without signing in and without cookies. Here is what we store if you sign up for updates.

What we keep

Your email, name and profile picture (if you come via Google), your language and which updates you want, when you signed up, when you last visited, how many times, and which films you started watching on the site, and the comments you write (visible to every visitor with your name and profile picture, never your email). Nothing else. If we gift you access to the films, also that and until when.

Why

To email you when a new film or a new version of Wayfare Studio is out, and to know how many people come back. We don't sell or share the data.

Where

The data lives in a database at Cloudflare, which also hosts this site. Email is sent through Brevo. Google sign-in happens at Google; we receive only your email, name and picture, and Google receives nothing from us.

How long

For as long as you have an account. Every email has a one-clicktap unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can delete your account and all data (comments, views, settings) yourself in Settings (the menu with your name at the top of the page). A sign-in link is valid for one hour and works once; used and expired links are deleted every day. To prevent abuse we count sign-in attempts and comments per hour, but the email and IP address are stored only as an irreversible hash and deleted after one day.

Cookies

One cookie (wayfare_seja) keeps you signed in for a year; it's set only when you sign in, it's signed, and scripts on the page can't read it. When you sign out, you're signed out on every device. Your browser also remembers your language choice. There are no third-party cookies.

Visits

For signed-in members we record the time of the last visit, the number of visits and which films they started watching. For everyone else we only count how many times a day the site loads, without cookies and without identifying anyone. The site also counts page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, without cookies and without identifying visitors: we only see totals (how many views, which pages, from which country), never who you are.

The app

Wayfare Studio works on your computer. Only what you start goes online: music, transcription models and map data you download, place names you look up (OpenStreetMap), and videos you publish — those go straight to YouTube, TikTok or Instagram under your own account; the sign-in tokens stay on your computer. One thing is prepared in advance: when you open a project whose clips have GPS, the map for the 3D route (map tiles, roads and rail tracks along the route, the list of airports) downloads in the background, so the 3D route is ready when you open it. Only the area of the route is sent, never your clips; you can switch this off under Privacy (“Map in advance”). If you use Claude, your messages, clip descriptions and the thumbnails Claude looks at go to Anthropic under your own API key, as described in Anthropic's terms. The clips themselves stay on your computer, and so does the key. With “Offline” on (Privacy, in the ⋯ menu) the app goes online for nothing at all.

Companion on your phone

The Companion page keeps your marks, notes, places and voice notes only on your phone. They leave it only as a file you send yourself to your Mac; we never receive them.

Feedback

If you send feedback, from the form on this site or with Send feedback in the app, we keep the type, your message, your email if you leave one, the app version and system, your language and when you sent it. We read it to fix and improve Wayfare Studio and to reply to you, and we don't share it. It lives in the same database at Cloudflare. If you delete your account, your email is removed from your feedback too.
